Ever wanted to discover new places? Not confident to go it alone? Discovering new places and challenging yourself adds to the whole experience of outdoors activities. NNAS offers a structured incentive scheme to help achieve levels of navigation to have the confident to independently discover countryside. ​ NNAS awards are achieved in three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Venture into Dartmoor with Crag 2 Mountain on a NNAS Bronze experience and you’ll come away confident to take on your own adventures. Learn map reading and compass skills, discover Dartmoor’s history and explore the environment all on a stunning walk on Dartmoor.
NNAS Bronze is your key to getting stared in countryside and moorland walking. If you aren't confident in or would like to learn more about planning walks, navigating understanding the equipment required, understanding weather on the hills, hazards and safety procedures then the NNAS Bronze is the perfect course to learn.
You will also receive a certificate upon completion from the National Navigation Award Scheme, as part of nationally recognised award scheme.

Itinerary

A Crag 2 Mountain NNAS Bronze experience starts with a friendly welcome from your own personal instructor and a chance to get to know your group. Your instructor will work with you to establish what you would like to achieve from your experience. Followed by a brief introduction talk and an explanation of how the day will run.
Your instructor will guide you through your navigation experience and help you get to grips key walking skills, covering the learning outcomes along the way.
Enjoying stunning Dartmoor scenery along your journey. Throughout your experience, you experience guide will teach you about Dartmoor’s fascinating history and wildlife environment.
You’ll finish off your experience feeling confident to tackle your own adventures.
Course content: • Introduction to a variety of maps and scales, • Understanding map symbols and contours, • Grid references, • Orientating the map with and without a compass, • Matching map to ground and identifying features, • Choose simple navigation strategies and routes, • Use linear features as handrails in simple exercises, • Estimate distance on both map and ground, • Recognising navigation errors and how to relocate, • Awareness of the countryside and environment, • Equipment and safety procedures, • Planning and implementing simple and safe walks. ​
